I just love this contempory Hip Hop + Chill group straight out of Tokyo. I think most people know their work from the Samurai Champloo anime, which fuses the idea of the old school Samurai with the old school Hip Hop vibe. I don’t know that much about the history or philosophy of this group other than it’s their debut album release.

Anyways, both their albums, Metaphorical Music (2003) and Modal Soul (earlier I think) bring that winning formula of hype beats, a song unto themselves sometimes, and lyrics that just don’t sound like what you’d expect from a group straight out of Japan. So much 5 Star goodness flowing on these tracks along with some very chill instrumental mixes. I get the vibe that they’re more a ‘band’ than typical lyric focused ‘hip hop group’.

They’re just great to listen to while working or even while typing those thoughts you really just can’t seem to put into words and I thought I should say a something that I could at least.
