Enough slummin’ for now. I’m tired of being poor, dreading that bank statement, pinching every penny, mowing the lawn.. I’m also sick of constant rejection and his best friend depression. Working is fine, it’s the job finding part I truly dread.
I’ve tried:
- University of Toronto Career center – supposedly where to go to find those rare and elusive part-time student oriented jobs with flexibility. Sadly, like seemingly everything UofT, it’s crap. The jobs are all volunteer or retarded & boring (Stuff like Dog driving around guy or telemarketing), and the ones that aren’t get pounced on by the 4.0 GPA so called ‘perfect’ people. Really not worth the constant bitch slaps to the face.
- Workopolis and Monster, two big job search listing sites online. You input in their database your resume a cover letter and some personal info, then search the site for jobs. A friend recommended this site to me. Now I know even more she’s weird. It’s Masters degree this, 5+ Years in the field that. Even the ‘student’ section is like that. Moving on..
- I found something good though after all this. Craigslist. It’s surprisingly great. No fancy registrations or databases – it’s just raw simple categorically ordered postings accessible to the not so old/learned.
It was such a pleasure in fact that I ended up applying to some pretty interesting things besides the normal stuff. There’s the painter for a bakery (Sure it’s probably not very money-ful but it would be so fun), the writer and photographer for a Student life newpaper (More hype, I secretly hope I get this most of all though – the experience would be valuable), Sex shop sales guy (On a whim really, but it’d definitely be fun to talk about).. There’s more but I forget.
Let’s see which ones don’t contact me back. Probably all of them with my luck.
Update: The student newspaper thing is volunteer :( , but I’ll still pursue it because it does sound fun and the experience is still valuable probably.
(P.S. RIP Funky Buddha)
